These come in a number of configurations and usually have an acrylic base. Caliper stands are another popular option for displaying minerals and they come in brass or chrome. They have two threaded prongs that tighten in on the piece from opposite ends. This holds the piece floating in the center. Other options are acrylic pronged stands and other types of easels.
