Display Cases & Albums for Euro Coins & Euro Sets

The euro is the common currency used by most European Union countries, introduced as an accounting unit on January 1, 1999, and launched in physical coin and banknote form on January 1, 2002. Prior to the euro’s arrival, each European country had its own national currency — such as the French franc or Italian lira — with rich monetary histories. The introduction of euro coins and notes represented a major milestone in European economic integration and the creation of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), fulfilling goals outlined decades earlier in the Maastricht Treaty.

Euro coins are issued in eight denominations, from 1 cent to €2. All coins share a common side that displays the value and a map of Europe, while the national side features a design specific to the issuing country, making them fascinating for collectors who enjoy both design diversity and cross-border coinage. Since their introduction, euro coins have circulated across a growing number of member states, and many countries also issue special €2 commemorative coins to celebrate historic events and cultural milestones. The blend of artistic variety, historical significance, and universal legal tender status makes euro coins a popular series among numismatists worldwide.
