Add These 2016 Stamps to Your Collection

The USPS recently released their annual preview of new stamps for the year ahead, and as a premier provider of collection books for all the philatelists out there, we thought it would be fun to take a look at some of them.

If you have a stamp album that feels a little bit empty, these new releases should make for the perfect additions to your collection. Conversely, if you have plenty of stamps but nowhere to store them, take a gander at our online store!

Based on Hugh Bell’s iconic photograph, this oil painting stamp pays tribute to one of America’s all-time greatest voices, Sarah Vaughan. She was a Grammy winner, and NEA Jazz Master, who, by the end of her career, was universally seen as one of the best singers of the 20th century. Her stamp is set to be dedicated on March 29th.

This one’s for all the American history buffs out there. This year marks the 250th anniversary of the Repeal of the Stamp Act of 1766, where American revolutionaries instilled an act to counter the British practice of “stamping” a variety of documents that people were required to pay taxes on—many of which the folks living in the colonies didn’t think were fair. This act was one of the prominent events that lead to the American Revolution. The stamp will be dedicated between May 28th and June 4th.

If history isn’t quite your forte, but astronomy is, this one should pique your interest. It’s actually a collection of 16 stamps—2 views of each planet. The high-tech images show true views of what the colors of each of them would look like if you were to fly past. And if you think Pluto is being left out, don’t worry! It’s getting its own series of stamps based on photographs taken during the 2015 New Horizons mission. Both sets of stamps are to be dedicated between May 28th and June 4th.

Star Quilts

These stamps will pay homage to the ever-popular star theme often used in American quilting. The photographs detailing the stars on quilts made by the Amish will be available on coils of 3,000 and 10,000 for business use.

A full list of the 2016 USPS stamps can be found on their site, but these are a few of the ones we found to be most interesting. Take a look at what’s available, and decide for yourself. Either way, our online store will cover all of your stamp album needs. Happy collecting!
